6月1日，在達蘭沙拉西藏兒童村學校舉辦的嘉榮千莫(Gyalyum Chenmo)紀念金杯足球比賽，法王以主賓身份參加第一天的活動。法王在開幕典禮中致詞，表示人人都應該學習他自己選擇的領域，並且說在比賽競爭時，要注意運動精神，準備接受贏或輸的結果。之後法王看了兩場比賽。由達蘭沙拉之西藏足球協會主辦的八天足球比賽，包括來自拜拉庫(Bylakuppe)、德里、達蘭沙拉、冬谷(Doon Valley)、岡托(Gangtok)、加德滿都(Kathmandu)、孟各(Mungod)和波卡那(Pokhana)最後獲得冠軍)的球隊。從各隊中將挑選選手成立西藏隊，希望能去歐洲比賽。金杯的名稱是為了紀念尊貴的達賴喇嘛往生的母親，嘉榮千莫索南措莫(Gyalyum Chenmo Sonam Tsomo)。

On June 1, 2003, His Holiness was the honored guest at the opening of the Gold Cup Football tournament in Dharamsala. He gave an opening address, and watched the first day’s games.

In May, His Holiness engaged in intensive studies and practice and curtailed his interview schedule. He resumed public interviews at the end of the month.
